Learn From The Night- Sent by Ravens
Life isn't just about the destination. It's about the journey too.
Life, something that thousands of people every day throw away because they don't find any meaning to it. What are we supposed to do when the people we love lose sight of the truth that every second we have to live is worth living to the fullest? It's too easy to fall captive to the lies that the world throws at us about the meaning of life.
Just look at the lyrics to the popular song "It Will Rain" by Bruno Mars. This is exactly what the world wants to tell us about what life is all about.
"If you ever leave me, baby,
Leave some morphine at my door
Cause it would take a whole lot of medication
To realize what we used to have,
We don't have it anymore."
"There's no religion that could save me
No matter how long my knees are on the floor, oh
So keep in mind all the sacrifices I'm making
To keep you by my side
And keep you from walking out the door."
"Cause there'll be no sunlight
if I lose you, baby
There'll be no clear skies
if I lose you, baby
Just like the clouds,
my eyes will do the same if you walk away
Everyday, it will rain,
rain, rain"
According to this song, there would be no point to life without the singer's 'baby'. The world is pushing the idea through our minds that love is all there is to life. Without it, what point is there in living? Another example of this is the Twilight series. At least a dozen times throughout the four movies released thus far, there are scenes where both Edward and Bella lament that without the other, there would be no point in living. At one point, Edward goes so far as to attempt suicide because he thought Bella was dead. If love is the only reason for living, we're in for a world of trouble, because in our fallen condition, the ability to truly love has been lost. All too often, we see stories on the news about love gone wrong with one or both parties dead as a result. Love cannot be the only answer to why we should care about living.
We can't do life on our own. Because of our sinfulness, we would be doomed to a life separate from God, one that truly would be worthless. But because of God's mercy toward us, we don't have to do it alone. He promises to be there with us. And even though it seems like it's not worth it, like there's no point, there is a purpose behind why we're here on this rock called Earth. We learn through the difficult times that life is hard, but it is always worth living. Our life has a grand purpose and meaning, one that is inseparable from the true love that can only come from Christ, the one that gave His life so that we might live ours.
Are you ready to learn from the night? God will never give up on you. You shouldn't give up either.
